New Biomass Extraction Equipment Increases Yields for Contract R&D, Toll Processing
A new biomass extraction processing line being assembled at POS Pilot Plant will maximize the amount of oil extracted from biomass, yield profitable by-products, and recycle the solvent used during processing. Depending on biomass composition, extraction capacity will approach 2 tonnes of dried biomass per day - making the technology ideal for contract R&D at the pilot plant scale, as well as for small scale specialty toll processing. - Read More

Process for producing a naturally-derived carotene/oil composition by direct extraction from algae
A process for formation of a naturally derived composition comprising carotenes, particularly beta-carotene, in oil. It involves direct oil extraction of the carotene from algae. Algae are initially harvested as a water slurry and concentrated, as by flocculation, in the slurry. The concentrated part of the slurry is then mixed with oil and homogenized to form an oil emulsion. The water/oil emulsion is broken & the oil phase containing the carotene separated by centrifugation (patent 1987). - Read More

Algae-Link developing technology to extract oil from algae paste
Algae-Link claims it has developed a new way to extract oil from wet algae paste. The algae paste is collected from a reactor through filtering or centrifugation and directly, without drying, is processed in AlgaeLink's oil extraction system. Total power consumption used in a 45m3 per hour oil extraction process is 26 kilowatts, which turns 50% of the algae paste into oil. (Mar 2008) - Read More

AlgaeLink's New Process for Oil Extraction from Algae
(May 2008) In the Netherlands, AlgaeLink announced a new process for extracting algae oil without using chemicals, drying or an oil press. The company said that its patent-pending technique uses 26 kilowatts of power to produce 12,000 gallons of algae oil per hour, with a yield of 50 percent from the initial algae paste.
