Ocean fertilization could lead to ocean acidification
Mitigation strategies that aim to transfer CO2 to the ocean, for example by direct deepsea disposal of CO2 or by fertilising the ocean to stimulate biological productivity, would enhance ocean acidification in some areas while reducing it in others. - Read More

Consequences of Oceans Absorbing CO2
Scientists have been concerned that lower ocean pH caused by absorption of CO2 emissions could decrease calcification processes underlying the growth of shells and corals? hard exteriors. They are also investigating how acidification alters the concentration and behavior of ocean?s trace metals, nutrients for marine life. Also looking into unexpected consequences of ocean acidification, such as disruptions to sound propagation and transmission of chemical cues. - Read More

Bamboo has many uses
Due to its many benefits, bamboo has been touted as an environmental miracle crop. It?s a significant carbon sink, it grows fast, is more termite-resistant than timber, and can be used for everything from food to clothing material to scaffolding for building construction. - Read More

EON estimates carbon capture to cost $40 per ton of CO2
French utility EON puts current carbon capture technology costs about $40 per ton of CO2, and they hope to get the cost down to $20. This does not include the cost of pressurizing the gas and injecting it into some form of permanent storage. - Read More

Carbon capture with bacteria to make CaCO3
A team of scientists in India have discovered a low-cost method of converting CO2 emissions into useful building material. The researchers developed a method to use enzymes to turn CO2 into calcium carbonate, which used in cement or limestone aggregate for building roads. CaCO3 is typically found in rocky materials such as limestone and chalk. The project uses 7 bacteria enzymes to speed up chemical reactions and convert CO2 to calcium carbonate. - Read More

We are at least a decade away from CCS
We?re a decade away from seeing even just a small number of large-scale CCS projects in operation, so talk today of coal plants or oil-sand operations being ?CCS-ready? is nothing more than greenwashing. - Read More
