Viridas drives ahead with jatropha biodiesel in Brazil

Viridas, the Alternative Investment Market-listed company, is moving forward with plans to establish a "base plantation" in Brazil as it looks to develop its strategy of producing biofuels. The Leeds-based company is to use the South American location as a central area to grow jatropha trees which it hopes will form the next generation of alternative fuel stock.

Maple Energy investment in Peru sugarcane ethanol plant for $222 mn

In Peru, Maple Energy announced that it would increase investment in its Peru sugarcane ethanol plant to $222 million, to allow for increased cane processing and steam generation equipment. Brazil sugar producers say bagasse could supply up to 15 % of Brazilian electric needs
